2010 has certainly been a year of celebration for The Riverside Restaurant in West Bay. At the beginning of the year the Watson family celebrated 50 years at the Riverside, and now in September the Riverside team is celebrating being voted the best restaurant in Dorset at this year’s Taste of Dorset Awards.
The presentation evening was held at Herrison Hall, at Charlton Down near Dorchester on Tuesday 7th September. The dinner for the awards was sourced as far as possible from local ingredients. The Restaurant Award sponsored by Chartered Accountants Prince Croft Willis of Poole was one of 15 categories in place to recognise the quality of the food and drink that is produced, sold and served in Dorset. In each category, the finalists were the three nominees with the greatest number of votes from consumers. The finalists were judged by a Taste of Dorset panel drawn from sponsors, the award organisers [Blackmore Vale Media] and local food experts.
Said Arthur Watson, of the Riverside
“We were shocked but delighted to be announced the winner of the restaurant category. To be nominated for the award by our diners makes winning this Award even more special and rewarding. I am very proud of the Riverside team, their loyalty, hardwork and dedication, without them the Riverside would not be the success it is. It was great to see so many other local businesses win top awards at the ceremony too. Having worked in the area for over 50 years I really appreciate the Taste of Dorset’s initiative to bring Dorset’s culinary world together We are all very fortunate to live in an area where some of the country’s finest food is produced and all of us at the Riverside are very excited to be part of it”.
