Weldmar Hospicecare Trust Charity Lunch

We were very pleased once again to host the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust Charity Lunch at the Riverside.

The 80 guests were greeted with an aperitif before they sat down to a delicious two course lunch prepared by Head Chef, Tony Shaw and his team, followed by coffee.   They were entertained by a very informative talk about ‘Mabel Stobart 1862-1954, a remarkable Dorset woman who founded the Women’s Sick and Wounded Convoy Corp and played a significant and dangerous role in the First World War,  given by Dr Peter Down.   Peter also informed the audience that her life is to be celebrated this year in the Dorchester Museum  –  Mabel Stobart: A Dorset Woman at War  – from 31 May to 15 November 2014 to mark the centenary of the start of the First World War.

“On behalf of the Trust, I would like to thank everyone who has generously supported our lunch today and  particularly Arthur Watson Weldmar charity lunch and his team at the Riverside who have provided us with a superb lunch as well as generously donating 50% of the takings to our charity.  This with your support from the raffle has meant that we have raised a fantastic £1300 today.  Without events like this the Weldmar Hospicecare would not be able to care for the people of Dorset .”    Said Mr Dave Durrant, who organised the event with Dr Ian Gibson.
